Strait Richmond Hospital was opened in June1980 and on November 3rd of that year, the Strait Richmond Health Care Foundation was registered as an official charity. We are committed to raising funds to purchase much-needed medical equipment for our hospital. With the help of many generous donors and volunteers, the Foundation works with our health care professionals and administration to make sure the finest care is available for everyone. Our Foundation currently has nine (9) Board of Directors, however, new members are always welcome. Our meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 4:30 pm in the hospital boardroom.
Healthier people in communities working together for wellness, contributing to a healthier environment. A stable, sustainable, integrated system that provides quality services to individuals, families and communities. We play an increasingly important role in Nova Scotia’s health care system, not only for our financial support, but also for the link we provide between health care facilities and community. It is a relationship based on trust, good will, and a deep desire to help.
Our latest and greatest “achievement” was the construction and upgrade to our Emergency Department, renovations to the entrance reception area, and the creation of our new “AMBULATORY CARE UNIT” in memory of Ruth Shannon.
Mr. Jospeh Shannon spearheaded this project and was our champion fundraiser! His family contributed $300,000 towards the campaign, our Strait Richmond Health Care Foundation matched his donation and Mr. Shannon was able to find us some corporate donors. We received $100,000 from Bank of Montreal, $100,000 from Scotia Bank, $200,000 from the Royal Bank, $100,000 from Clearwater Seafoods and $100,000 from Port Hawkesbury Pulp & Paper. A ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a tour of the newly completed Ruth Shannon Ambulatory Care Unit, took place in October 2022. All local resident donations, corporate donations, and Nova Scotia Health were recognized and played a huge role in the completion of this $1.6 million project.
A notable achievement was the purchase of “Cuddle Beds” for the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society’s new patient rooms at a cost of $47,000.
It was a collaborative project between the Foundation & Palliative Care Society.
We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.
